VW Arteon Light Up Emblem (2017–2024)  Description:

The Volkswagen Arteon is the only model in the current VW passenger car range that genuinely occupies the premium fastback category — a four-door coupé with enough rear headroom for adults, enough boot space for a family’s luggage, and enough design ambition to hold its own against premium German badge alternatives. This page covers the complete production run from 2017 through to 2024, spanning two distinct generations and three distinct body styles, with a separate VW Arteon light up emblem variant available for each.

If you already know your generation and just want to confirm which variant to order, the table below is the fastest route to an answer. If you want the full story on what changed between generations and why it matters for badge fitment, read through the sections that follow.

Quick Reference — Which Generation Is Your Arteon?

Generation Body Style Production Years Badge Variant
First Generation Fastback only 2017–2020 Arteon Gen 1 emblem
Second Generation Fastback 2021–2024 Arteon Gen 2 emblem
Second Generation Shooting Brake (estate) 2021–2024 Arteon Gen 2 emblem
Second Generation eHybrid (PHEV) 2021–2024 Arteon Gen 2 emblem — EV-safe

Not sure which generation you have? The fastest check is the front grille design. The first generation has a wide, nearly flush chrome strip across the upper grille with a cleaner, less complex lower section. The second generation has a revised front face with more defined horizontal blade elements and subtly different headlight integration. If you are still unsure, send our team your VIN and we will confirm before you order.

What Changed Between the First and Second Generation That Affects Badge Fitment

The 2021 second generation Arteon was a substantial refresh rather than a full redesign — Volkswagen retained the basic body architecture but revised the front fascia, the tailgate, the interior technology, and critically for badge purposes, the grille panel structure. The badge housing on the second generation uses a different clip configuration and slightly different dimensional profile compared to the first generation. An emblem sized for the 2017–2020 Arteon will not clip correctly into the 2021–2024 grille panel housing, which is why it is essential to specify your generation when ordering.

The Shooting Brake — Does It Use the Same Emblem?

The Arteon Shooting Brake was introduced for the second generation only — it was not available on the first generation Arteon. It uses an entirely different rear end compared to the fastback but shares the same front fascia, the same grille panel, and the same badge housing position as the second generation fastback. The same Gen 2 emblem fits both the second generation Arteon fastback and the Shooting Brake without any modification. There is no Shooting Brake specific variant needed for the front badge.

Arteon eHybrid — Plug-In Hybrid Considerations

The Arteon eHybrid was introduced as part of the second generation refresh in 2021, offering a combined output of 218PS from a 1.4 TSI engine paired with an electric motor. Like all PHEV Volkswagen models, the eHybrid operates a high-voltage traction battery alongside a conventional 12V auxiliary system. The Arteon light up emblem connects exclusively to the 12V auxiliary circuit — via the LED running light circuit or the fuse box — and has zero interaction with the high-voltage PHEV battery, the charging circuit, or the energy management system. The installation process on the eHybrid is identical to the standard petrol Arteon and carries no additional electrical risk specific to the hybrid architecture.

ACC Compatibility Across Both Generations

Both generations of Arteon use a front radar sensor positioned directly behind the front badge housing for adaptive cruise control and emergency braking. This applies to the vast majority of Arteon trim levels in all markets — SE upward in North America, and Elegance upward in European markets. The light up emblem for both generations uses the 7mm-depth housing confirmed radar-transparent on MQB and MQB Evo platform ACC systems respectively. Neither generation requires any dealer calibration visit after fitting, and neither will produce dashboard warning lights related to the front assist system.

Line Style or Full Illumination — Specific to the Arteon

The Arteon’s front design philosophy across both generations is built around horizontal continuity — the wide light strips, the blade-like grille elements, and the badge sit together as a unified surface rather than individual components. Line Style illumination, with its precise ring-and-arc outlined effect, integrates most naturally with this design language and is what the car’s front end visually anticipates. It reads as a factory-specified detail on the Arteon rather than an aftermarket addition in a way that is more pronounced here than on most other VW models.

Full Illumination remains available for owners who prefer a bolder, more immediately visible badge effect — the solid white disc is more conspicuous at distance and under lower ambient light conditions. R-Line and high-specification Arteon owners who want a stronger visual statement frequently choose full illumination for this reason. Both styles are available for both generations.

Wiring on the Arteon

Before placing the order, we suggest you read this information carefully. This is the grille where the emblem goes, and some built-in plastic prevents the LED emblem from fitting perfectly flat. You will need to do additional work to make it fit properly.

Due to the flat nature of the LED emblem, while the original emblem has a dome shape, some extra adjustments will be required for a proper fit. If you cannot accept this, please do not place the order. Thank you!
