Important Note for ID.5 Electric Vehicle Owners
Like all Volkswagen ID series vehicles, the ID.5 operates both a high-voltage drive battery system and a separate 12V auxiliary battery for low-voltage accessories. The rear LED emblem connects exclusively to the 12V auxiliary circuit via the license plate light or tail light wiring — it does not interact with the high-voltage drive battery, the battery management system, or any motor control components. The installation process is identical to any standard rear badge replacement and presents no additional risk related to the electric drivetrain.
What Does It Look Like When Lit?
The illuminated VW roundel on the ID.5’s sloping tailgate produces a clean, even white glow across the full badge face. Installation
- Open the tailgate and remove the trunk liner panel to access the rear wiring cavity

- Feed the LED emblem harness through the tailgate panel into the interior wiring cavity
- Route the harness to the license plate light or tail light circuit — connect red wire to positive (+) and black wire to ground (−)
- Insulate each wire connection individually with electrical tape
- Press the LED emblem firmly into the factory mounting position until all clips engage securely
- Test illumination before refitting the trunk liner panel
